About the Speaker:
Dr Sufyan Droubi has been appointed as a Lecturer (Teaching and Research) in Law within the School of Social Sciences. He is the director of the LLM in International Commercial Law and of the LLM in Law, Banking and Finance. Previously, Dr Droubi was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, at the University of São Paulo and at the São Paulo Research Foundation. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Essex. He carried his previous studies in law at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. Fully qualified lawyer in Brazil since 1996, he spent twelve years in practice in investment law and competition law before turning to the academia. His publications include International Organizations and Non-State Actors and the Formation of Customary International Law (Manchester University Press 2020), Latin American and International Investment Law (Manchester University Press 2020), Resisting United Nations Security Council Resolutions (Routledge 2014). His research is particularly concerned with the role of international organisations and non-state actors, notably corporations, in the international sphere. He is one of the editors of the Melland Shill Perspectives to International Law (Manchester University Press). He is one of the coordinators of the Interest Group on International Organisations of the European Society of International Law and remains a member of the Manchester International Law Centre at the University of Manchester.
